Having to go to the year 1916, when a man named Jon Hathaway’s wife knocks on a pretty funny manor. It’s his alias, Rodrick Burgess, who likes calling him Magus. Jon brought the Magdalene Grimoires to the museum, which contains all the black magic spells used in occult ceremonies.

It was designed to use a spell from the book to trap the angel of death. So that Jon and Magus could ask the angel for their dead sons to have back in battle, whom they lost in the war. But Magus and his Order of Ancient Mysteries accidentally summoned Dream while trying to summon and imprison Death.

They take away his sand pouch, the ruby and the helm which make Dream totally powerless, trapped inside a crystal prison surrounded by the enchantment circle in the basement. Burgess was hoping to create a trap for his sister, Death, but she refused to talk to him until his death.

His prison force led to global terrorism. Some people slept for a long time, while others couldn’t sleep, or experienced waking to nightmare dreams. Alex Burgess became a Dreams captor after his father died and he sadly tried to negotiate with Dream until his age.

The moment in time, when his wheelchair scuffed the binding circle, I was silent. The silence of Dream prevented me from entering the minds of mortals. His guards fell asleep on duty, so he could escape from the huge prison he used to hold.

After getting out of bed, he saved the curse of eternal sleep for Alex and reached his dreaming realm. From now on commences his quest to find his tools the pouch, ruby and the helm which were stolen by the yelling Maguss sworn mate, Ethel Cripps, who ran away.

To restore order, Dream must move across all of the different worlds and timelines to protect the destruction of the past in his absence, reverting old friends and foes and bringing together new people, cosmic and human.

In his search he meets Constantine andamp; her ex-lover, he must fight Lucifer Morningstar in hell, and gets his ruby back from the Cripps family. We even realize that Dream lived throughout the centuries, to build relationships with humans like Hob Gadling, or Will Shaxberd, etc.

After the world order is restored, a new problem is becoming so difficult to reshape: the escape of ordinary things (dreams & nightmares — – the nightmares and the appearance of rare dreamvortexs. A vortex is a person who is able to travel through other peoples dreams and is powerful enough to take Dreams place.

For that reason, Morpheus must destroy the vortex before taking down all the walls between realms to cause destruction. The runaway subject of the real world – a killing of people and creating problems for his creator – is the actual real world problems that his own siblings will always tell you.

Summing up: The Sandman.

This series seems to be a major source of this original comic. If you’re familiar with that comic series, you’ll instantly realize that the series is compilation of Preludes and Nocturnes till episode 6 and then follows the Doll House plot.

There are some tweaks apparently, like gender-swiping of John and Lucifer Morningstar characters, introducing Corinthians much earlier than it was in the comics and ignoring some minor characters. The creators certainly tried to create a storyline that has become seamless, without the need for confusion between audiences with different timelines.

And the characters of Maus, Corinthians and John Dee are definitely admirable, despite their role being played by some talented actors. However, the series seems slowing a little in the last few episodes and isn’t going to have a halt at the end of the episode. I think that series could’ve been until episode 6 and became into another season that benefited from more gripping explorations.

The performances of Magus and John Dee in the first six episodes delight the audience, but the following episodes do not suffice their absence with equally strong antagonists/drama. The role of Desire could have been more explored and more interesting, rather than just a five-minute cameo.

Especially, if you are all new to the series and concept, it may be very confusing with the introduction of a multitude of characters and announcing them goodbye without knowing them. The many timelines and relics that aren’t explained well, seem to make sense if it happens, but it won’t, unless you read on the next page.
