Hello everyone, Im Julian Huijbregts, Community Manager at Nixxes. We celebrate the release of Spider-Man on PC.
The team has worked a lot with our friends in the past year. This original Marvel story and the PlayStation hit the PC. To give us more information on ultra-wide monitors and multiple screen setups*, I am very interested in the introduction of some of our Nixxes team members.
The Graphics programmer Hilze Vonck, which is an avid gaming fan of ultrawidescreen, sipped down the technical approach to the development of ultrawide aspect ratios in the PC version of Marvels Spider-Man Remastered. For five years I used an ultrawide 21:9 monitor. I really want ultrawide resolutions in games. We want to give gamers who invest heavily in their setups the ability to play the game in the best possible way. The game can be very good with screens on ultra-wide or triple screen. That way it’s a really cool experience.
The top software engineer coen Frauenfelder explained that one of the reasons for going with ultrawide monitors was the positive feedback of the gaming community about 21:9 support in other PC games. We initially planned for the support of 21:9 and after some internal testing we decided to step ahead and add 232:9 and 48:9 screens for high-end setups. Three monitors. The game’s good worth is this. A skylight in New York and the streets of Marvel’s New York feel like a different world.
Marvels Spider-Man Remastered is fully optimized for large games. The gameplay, but as well the numerous cut scenes are adapted for large dimensions, up to 32:9. Coen talks about the challenges Nixxes were forced to overcome to make this possible:
It’s relatively easy to implement large support on the general screen. It’s the most important thing to accompany him to cinematic work which is created specifically by artists that will be viewed on 8:9 screens. In this view area, there isn’t much that has to be fixed. Characters can freeze or suddenly disappear, for example. The easiest way would be to place black border areas in cut scenes to block those areas from being seen on ultrawide displays. But we wanted to allow PC gamers to use full use of their screens. Our QA team meticulously saw the cutscenes in the wide view and included all the details that had to be changed by our engineers and artists.
Coen highlighted how hard it was to get it right. We knew that would take a lot of time, but our team was passionate and determined to get the most out of it. Hilzes enthusiasm for this led him to work a lot on the technical aspects of implementing ultrawide support.
In addition, Marvels Spider-Man Remastered looks at the full aspect ratios in dimensions up to 32:9. The edges of the outside are blurred during cut scenes. This is necessary to block view areas that could otherwise have visual errors. Hilze worked on the engine for long support. It wasn’t easy to implement this. It took a while, but I think it looks really good.
Besides gameplay and movie scenes, Nixxes system engineers have made sure user interface and menus are supported with widescreen. With ultra-wide monitors, you can move HUD positions in different locations.
We know that most of you have a wide display or multiple monitors. The current version of Marvels Spider-Man Remastered offers numerous improvements. This game has ray-traded enhanced reflections**, supports NVIDIA DLSS and other upscaling technologies and offers an easy to use render option.
Everyone at Nixxes was really excited to work on this project with our friends at Insomniac. We would like to hear from you about your experience playing the Spider-Man Remastered game of Marvel. Contact us on Twitter and follow us to stay up to date.
