Apple TV+ set a release date for Emancipation to 12 today. On Friday, December 9th, ET. On the West Coast people can watch this movie at 9 o’clock. PT on Thursday, December 8. Antoine Fuqua was the director of the screenplay William N. Collage. Smith is said to be followed by Fred Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, Gilbert Owuor, Mustafa Shakir, Steven Ogg, Grant Harvey, Ronnie Gene Bivens, Jayson Warner Smith, Jabbar Lewis, Michael Luwoye, Aaron Moten, and Imani Pullum.

The synopsis says the triumphant story of Peter Smith – a man who escapes slavery with wits, with a deep heart for his family to conquer the cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on his quest for freedom. The film is based on the 1863 photographs of Whipped Peter, taken in the Union Army medical exam, the first that were published in Harpers Weekly. One image, known as The Scourged Back, shows Peters bare back mutilated with a whipping delivered by his enslavers, ultimately helped up the public’s rebellion to slavery.
