Megatron, who almost always was the leader of the Decepticons and fiercely rival to Optimus Prime of the Autobots, is one of the most famous names in the franchise history. The fact about the Decepticons is, however, that they sometimes are financed by Galvatron in a few continuities. So, does that mean Megatron and Galvatron are the same Transformers?
Megatron and Galvatron are almost always the same Transformer, depending on the continuity. In many Continuities or universes, they are separate Transformers. Nonetheless, in the movie franchise and in the most continuities, Megatron and Galvatron are the same, as the same way Galvatron was constructed from Megatrons remains.
It can be very confusing to say that Megatron and Galvatron are sometimes the same, sometimes different. A lot of fictional franchises do not have any more facets, but the Transformers have also many other characters that have different versions in different universes. As a whole, let’s try to figure out whether Megatron and Galvatron are the same or not.
Are Megatron and Galvatron the same Transformers?
Transformers is a popular fictional-era franchise that follows the story of people (and animals and dinosaurs) that could turn into ingenient robotic robots with their own self-emancipation. Of course, in Transformers storyline, the name that stood out everywhere when it came to bad guys was Megatron.
As a leader of the Decepticons and the evil Transformers often at the other end of a rivalry with the nicer Autobots, Megatron is often the one that fans remember, because he is an iconic figure that almost always appears in Transformers. Of course Megatron was the major rival to Optimus Prime, who was the top of the Autobots.
In addition to becoming an icon among the Decepticons, it’s almost always the one that people remember when they think of the bad guys in Transformers, but it has another big bad guy that is almost as iconic. We are talking about Galvatron, who is more insane than Megatron, but a little more evil. Of course they’re both similar. So does this mean that Megatron and Galvatron are the same Transformer?
Some times Megatron and Galvatron are one and the same. Others have different characteristics, with their own differences. The G1, and The G1, said that they are the same Transformers, so this is the continuity that people usually have with their attention whenever they talk about Transformers. Even other continuities have different versions of Megatron and Galvatron, and they’re not the same.
Why did Megatron turn the evil?
Nevertheless, in many adaptations of Transformers, G1 is often used as the source material or, at the very least, as the inspiration. The animated movies and the animated books are adapted or inspirations of G1. Both of the Transformers movies have their own identity, but many of them follow G1 as their source material.
Of course, in Transformers franchise, Megatron and Galvatron are actually one and the same, but were meant to be different when Galvatron was created. As for the original story of Galvatron in the Transformers movie franchise, his origins are far from his original story in the comics or in the animated movie series. Nevertheless, he remains a remnant of Megatron with all intents and purposes.
With that said, it really depends on continuity because Transformers is also a large multiverse, with different characters from different universes, with different versions. This can be quite confusing, but true, it really depends on the storyline of the Transformers continuity that you followed. But we know that there were at least nine instances when Megatron became Galvatron, and that means they’re basically the same character.
How did Megatron Become Galvatron (and Megatron again)?
The origins of Galvatron can vary depending on the continuity we follow. Despite their origin, many cases, their stories are basically in the same position that Galvatron was built from a destroyed or killed Megatron. Of course the way that he was rebuilt is diverse, because that depends on the Transformers universe.
However, the most popular origin story for Galvatron can be found in G1. In this story, Megatron was tied off by Starscream, but was hurried into the void by the gigantic astronomy named Unicron. When he died, Megatron was saved by Unicron, who offered to give him new identity and body in exchange for being his servant.
Obviously, Megatron accepted the bargain and became a new life of the Unicron, who gave him a new identity and body. Galvatron also remembers the past, but eventually became insane, despite the fact that he was more powerful than Megatron. Unicron used the pieces of other Deafants who were killed also by Starscreams treachery to give new troops to Galvatron that would serve him against the Autobots.
What Happened to Galvatron in Transformers: The Last Knight?
At the first Transformers movie, Michael Bay also popularized Megatron with his Optimus Prime. Optimus has become more powerful thanks to the upgrades he received. From this moment on, Megatron worked with Sentinel Prime during the Dark of the Moon to enslave Earth and use the human power to bring Cybertron back to life.
Just when Sentinel Prime was about to kill Optimus Prime, Megatron intervened because he didn’t want to become a Sentinels lapdog and lackey. He was traying Sentinel and injured him so he couldn’t fight anymore. But Optimus used the opportunity to kill Megatron and kill him, before he killed Sentinel, too.
Then, in Age of Extinction, the Megatrons head was salvaged by the KSI, which they used to create man-made transformers using the information contained in the Decepticon leader head. In truth, the powers possessed of Megatrons created an army and gave him a new body. As a result, Megatrons were made to build Galvatron.
When Galvatron had woken, he was still the same Megatron as us in the Transformers movie because he remembered his memories even after KSI rebuilt him. The autobots and the Dinobots defeated Galvatron, the newly built army, as he decided to return to Cybertron, telling him that he and Optimus would meet again because of his birthplace.
During the period between Age of Extinction and the Last Knight, Quintessa moved Galvatron back into his Megatron form as he became a new man. Since the fact that he never really saw himself as distinct and distinct from his Megatron personality, he stayed on with only one movie. His Galvatron form was completely different for him. But he was still Tomet.
