The story about the next generation of PC graphics cards was pretty simple. It started with the launch of the RTX 4090, a benchmark that launched through the board, with Nvidias vision for a new era of gaming with ray tracing at the forefront. The story turned dark as the RTX 4080 used an underpriced premium GPU. AMD is returning with its RDNA 3 based RX 7900 XT and 7900 XT, and to a time where Nvidia’s 4080 misstep can allow the Radeon team the largest backlog of the past three decades. The excitement is noticeable, and the prospect of competing with the dominant market leader is mouthwatering, but a tidbit of the RX 7900 XT is especially impressive, and the hard and expensive hoped for here this RX 7900 XT is quite disappointing.
In this generation, AMD compiled performance-codes indicating a multiplier of 1.5 to 1.7x for the RX 7900 XT compared to the current flagship RX 6950. The XTX should not turn the RTX 4090s performance door on the rasterizer, but instead dominate the RTX 4080.It Happened, but only with the frequency that established it as the norm. A major blunder by AMD is the RX 7900 XT in the same way as its flagship.
Of course, this is just looking at the new RDNA three cards from a performance perspective. At an engineering level and strategic, the new products based on the Navi 31 processor are innovative and reliable. With the idea of a monolithic processor, surrounded by memory modules, AMD chose a chiplet approach that worked very well with Ryzen and applied it to graphics. GCD is a five-nm chipslet which was built by TSMC as an alternative to an existing set of new cards for better graphics. This is an unused model with 8×600-sixms and 80×600-sixms of Intel’s asynchronous transmission, which uses infinity Cache for the RX 7900 XT and 96×800. Smaller chips are more cost-effective and thus scalable. Even though Navi 31 has only one GCD, the final result is clear. increase performance, by separating more GCDs together, like AMD’s improved CPU performance in Ryzen.
Added to Nvidia’s latest offerings, displays port 1.4 still running, limited to 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 240Hz. Having said that, my opinion of the results well show that these ultra-high refresh rates applications are limited (actually a limitation of current CPUs) comparative to graphics cards. That said, the esports favourite should be fine.

To put it into context before us, the game clock specified in the AMD official specs (shown above) is highly, very underestimated, compared to the highly dynamic real performance. The Riva Tuner Statistic Server reported more in the 2,6 GHz to 2,8 GHz range in my tests and at 1080p even saw that 7900 XTX flirted with 2,9 GHz. Quant to frequency wars with Nvidia, RDNA 3 appears to be much more pronounced towards the Ada Lovelace cards. I believe that despite subpar clocks being one of the most important surprises and disappointments of RDNA 3 are a good example of this.
Moving on to the physical form factor of the new RX GPUs, the card was reviewing today comes directly from AMD and is a reference version and the most reasonable design we’ve seen. As in Nvidia’s new high-end offerings, third-party cards look overkill. The reference design resembles a standard – normally large, well-designed, solidly built GPU, with two analog power inputs for a 8-pin PCI Express. We have seen an evolution of RDNA II card language, and I believe this is attractive, understated designs.
The video outputs are definitely good, too: were looking at two of the ideal DisplayPort 2.1 sockets, combined with an HDMI 2.1 port and a USB-C output. This option also supports Full DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth. It is a great collection of options. For me, it would be ideal if you had a small USB port, the third port, and the third device, that we were watching on Nvidia reference cards on RTX 2000.
When coming back to the new generation we’d like to see an increase in performance, but more importantly, the energy consumption should stay approximately the same or even more so we see it shrink. To measure RDNA 3’s power consumption, I selected four titles two with ray tracing fully enabled at 4K and 2 without.
For the non-RT games, I chose Forza Horizon 5, a game that didn’t necessarily look the same as RDNA 3, and Hitman 3, an alternative where the new architecture was a great alternative. These benchmarks are calculated separately from performance data elsewhere, and in the case of Dying Light 2 in different fields of content (I used actual in-game benchmarks for this, not the intro).
By measuring the average number of watts in each of the bench and by dividing the watt-value ratio into the meter-sized ratio, we got the weight of the narrator: the lower the the size of the jiule per frame; the lower the amount of youle per pound. The test is all new for this review. It is powered by Nvidias PCAT interposer, a power input and an accelerated GPU, while enhancing the power drawn from the motherboards’ PCIe slot.

We saw the RTX 4080 review with a significant efficiency effect compared to the RTX 2080 and 3080. Despite this, AMD didn’t fit RDNA 3. The RTX 4080 shipped 51% less power than Forza Horizon 5, but in the here, the RX 7900 XT and 7900 XT only use 66% less power.
In terms of efficiency, Hitman 3 with RT disabled is closer to Nvidia, while RDNA 2s RX 6900 XT is, and this is even more impressive. With the RX 7900 XTX compared to the previous model, the energy used is less expensive, and it will consume 24% less power, raising to 26% for a more efficient RX 7900 XT.
Moving on to RT titles, we should expect Nvidia to be more efficient in implementing its dedicated hardware and higher performance – and it is clearly better than it is. In comparison to the RX 6900 XT and Control, the 7900 XTX uses 27% less power, while the 7900 XT loses 24%. In Dying Light 2s new benchmark, the RX 7900 XTX consumes 27 percent less power, while the XT model consumes 28 percent less power.
As with the RDNA 3-cards, you have greater power than the RX 660 xT. Even with the increase in a frame rate, which has tripled the power draw in three of the four tests, I would like better results comprehensively. The Forza Horizon 5 results are frustrating, showing minimal improvements from the revised architecture and more advanced pipeline nodes.
Today lets begin testing the new generation of GPUs, but now we are familiar with the benchmarks, and we’ve built a short overview of the new PCs which we built for test. At the core of our system is an Intel Core i9 900K with P and 3,9GHz with E cores. That GPU is enhanced with 6000 MT/s Trident Z5 DDR5 memory from G-Skill. The Noctua NH-D15 is our go-to cooler for powerful processors. All games are run on the PCIe Gen 3 SSD. All of the components are mounted on an ASUS ROG Maximus Hero Z690 motherboard, while the power supply is powered by a Corsair RM1000i Power supply.
