The Sony studio behind the Open World RPG series wants to bring postapo-apocalyptic robot combat online with an upcoming project featuring new characters and a different art style.
One new internal team is developing a free-source online project horizons Universe, a tweet from Guerrilla Games said. With a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look, their friends can explore the majestic wilderness together. Don’t expect to come together with ALoy and her other friends this time.
Character, quest, and combat designers are also working with stylized world artists and characters animators. From the descriptions, it looks like something you’d expect from the creators of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, but with a multiplayer twist. Other references to the new art direction suggest different visual compromises than studios that hold the utmost recollection of modern fidelity.
Guerrilla also states clearly that it’s still working on a new single-player version of the horizon series, whereas PSVR2 spins off the mountainand Forbidden West with a larger scope, Burning Shoresthe latter two apparently appearing in the early 2023. There are vacancies for one’s project also, but it’s not exactly clear what it was.
rumors of a horizon Multiplayer project have lingered for a while, including a report from a horizon MMO to which the license is granted by Guild Wars Publishers. This move comes as other major Sony first-party franchises hit the internet, like the Spirit of Tsushimas Co-op raid updateand an upcoming one Multiplayer only last of us spin off.
After the demise of three million dollars of Bungie and its successful MMO shooter destiny 2, which became a gold standard for live service gaming, it was announced that it is slated to release more live service games by 2025. If the new years indicate, they won’t fail and thus few will get the highest amount of apex Legends, Genshin Impact and other recent breakout hits. Because Sony will ever try growing majority of its revenue from microtransactions and other returning player purchases, it’s easy to see why Sony is trying.
