Here is what we know about James Gunns new Superman movie

In clearing up the rumors about the future of the DC films, the newly appointed co-chair and CEO shared the actual plan for the new Superman movie.

Director James Gunn and British producer Peter Safran are currently the co-chairmans and CEOs of DC Studios. As part of an effort to make the DC fanbase transparent in these difficult times, Gunn took to Twitter to address some rumors, including a large one about the return of Henry Cavill to Superman. Gunn shared the plan for the next Superman movie.

Although it is not an origin story, according to Gunn, next Superman will focus on the earlier parts of the heros’ life. A director hasn’t yet been found. Gunn did confirm in tweets that hell’ll be writing the script:

Superman is among those who are on the slate. In our initial phase, our story will be focusing on an early part of Superman’s life, so this character won’t be played by Henry Cavill.

I write (and have been writing for a while). We don’t know who is directing yet.

Of course, it’s not the first time that we watched the story of the Man of Steel on screen most iconically. Eventually the long-running Prequel series Smallville depicted Clark Kent growing up, meeting Lex Luthor and discovering his ability in a small town. Although Man of Steel did not reveal the whole age of Clark Kents, it did attempt to show that he was Superman all the time (and caused too much damage).

We haven’t seen Gunn work with a character like Superman in his current roster, so it’s interesting seeing how he has done the plot. We know he is honest (look for the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special) so hopefully he can bring that perspective more to the forefront for Superman.
