Vinlandsaga is a historical manga written and drawn by Makoto Yukimura. Kodansha published this series in Weekly Shonen for April 2005, then moved to the monthly magazine Afternoon in December 2005. This manga is inspired by Icelandic sagas and references North America with the Vikings. The animation adaptation by Wit Studio was first aired between July 8 and December 30, 2019. The studio has a second season in production. We will tell you in this article whether Vinland Saga is finished or whether you’re able to anticipate more content in the future.
Vinland Saga is a series of books that make up two different pieces a manga and an anime series, and neither of these works are finished yet and are still ongoing. The manga series has been ongoing since the 13th of April 2005, and is currently having 26 volumes at the time of writing, while the anime series has been ongoing since July 7, 2019, but it still doesn’t appear to be coming from a third season. You have no idea what one will do with these works.
The rest of this article will focus on all its aspects, and the publication of the Vinland Saga series. We’re going to look into the whole publication history and finally tell you whether the Vinland Saga series is over or still in progress, so that you can learn how much material this great series will offer you.
Is Vinland Saga over?
The series began in 2005 and drew a hit at the publisher Kodanshas Weekly Shonen. In October of this year the publication was suspended to resume in December when it was released in the monthly magazine Afternoon, which was also published by Kodansha. This change is due to the growth of creation that Makoto Yukimura didn’t sustain. One chapter a week generally doesn’t suit historical series, where research takes time, where the plot is longer period and where the sets ought to be studied more.
In addition to the series being switched to Afternoon by the Weekly Shonen Magazine, there are two versions of volume 1 and 2.
Yukimura is assisted, with the drawings, with four assistants: Haito Kumagai, Kazuoki Suzuki, Tomoyuki Takami and Daiju Watanabe. Until now, there have been 26 volumes released: 1 is the most comprehensive volume of the book; 1 is the last of the two.

As of now, the Vinland Saga manga was quite popular. There’s absolutely no sign of cancelation, and although the story is approaching its final arc, there’s no news yet about cancellation or the series ending in the moment, which means that there’s a lot more of the manga to enjoy.

Everything we said about this manga can also be applied to anime. Although we haven’t received the official confirmation of a third season of Vinland Saga (the second still hasn’t aired), the popularity of the manga and the initial anime adaptations make it almost a certain thing. So we can confirm that the anime isn’t over, and that we’ll see more of them in the future. We just don’t know when.
