- Epic Games will have to pay over $520 million in compensation for allegations that the company violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- This is because the company reportedly introduced strange tricks, known as dark patterns, to trick millions of gamers into making unintentional purchases.
- On the one hand, Epic will pay a monetary penalty of $275 million for violating the COPPA, the highest penalty ever obtained for violating the FTC rule. In addition, Epic will pay 290 million dollars to reimburse the consumers for their billing practices, the largest for the FTC and the largest administrative order in history.
