Japan’s Christmas with some crispy, grilled chicken made possible by KFC And apart from thatanother beloved custom is to eat Christmas cake, really just Japanese shortcake, really just regular sponge cake with strawberries and whipped cream.
Christmas cake
This simple treat but with the right ingredients, the right amount of love on it can be a perfect choice. A palate sophisticated enough to notice the difference between luxury and run-of-the-mill Japanese shortcake was also needed.
And as Christmas near, team decides to make two slices of Christmas cake this time First is the New Super Amaou Shortcake sold at luxury chain Hotel New Otanis Patisserie Satsuki for $1404 yen (US$10), and thats just for one slice! Japan’s Super Amaou Shortcake gets top spot in shortcake ($85 $244) – type
New Super Amaou Shortcake: A slice of New
In the other corner, is the Special Strawberry Short that sells for 324 yen ($2.50) from Chateraise, an industry chain with more than 600 places, but six branches

They are probably tasty – some may even prefer the cheaper cake Which cake is worth more if they can select the skill to be able to pick the cake they favor, pick the ingredients that went into it.
And because the more dark colour and the delicate sugar on the strawberry of the Super Amaou Shortcake could be giveaways, we had each writer blindfolded while tasting Cake A and Cake B. First up was P.K. Sanjun, who was terribly wrong about Japan winning the World Cup with penalty kicks but could be right about cakes.
P.K Sanjun: B
P.K.: Yeah, it is hard Okay, then, I thought B had better whipped cream but only by a little And if I had to say, the strawberry on B was less firm. My gimmick, maybe, maybe as in Super it should have really plump strawberries, really?? Im not really confident about it, but Ill move with B.
Yuichiro Wasai: A Word
Yuichiro: A is delicious! Crazy Delicious!! Ah, but probably know that too. Is it A? Just considering the richness of the cream, I was like Is it A? But the strawberry of B was also kind of watery too The whole country is getting a nice deal, it’s interesting that Chateraise always sells moderately sweet stuff, so this time Im very good and thats very cool and we definitely just want to add to 90% of their customers’ comments.
Ahiruneko: B
Ahiruneko: A is really yummy, but is it THE shortcake? Maybe its the Chateraise one. Nothing but a good shortcake, which I have no complaints; it doesnt look like it is from the patisserie, which I think it tastes perfect, but it doesnt really taste like something from something that I like.
Wait a minute! B looks good too?! neither ages like it came from a patisserie I can forgive Chateraise for that, but I would be angry if I paid 1.400 yen for it Alright, well, A tasted too normal and Hotel New Otani shouldnt serve something like that. B is good but nicer because it really looks a little less fresh -I prefer it to be less bolder This one sounds very disappointing
Seiji Nakazawa: B
Seiji: Shortcake, eh? Ever eaten a chateraise. No, hardsuper hard Sure I know Im just eating the same cake. A second bite of B left me in shock as I saw the sponge cake a little warmer egg flavor. All that changed, and that was pretty much the thing. The Chateraise would come home without hesitation though. Its actually quite like choosing between Mario and Luigi.
Masanuki Sunakoma: A read
Masanuki: A is the better Chateraise would say somehow that B had a flavour like this. The difference was in the aftertaste, in which one was very ‘dry’ and had a sense of something from a luxury hotel. B had a sweet aftertaste and a blander overall flavor Chateraise is very popular with me, although they tried to get them a bit too hard with B.
Takashi Harada: B
Takashi: I rarely buy sweets for myself probably just a few times a year only. A certainly was delicious, feel like I had a good one somewhere before. B eutized as new and unknown on that note I cant say much about it without experience, but the sponge cake of B felt more like a cloud But I dont know much about cream. Well, yeah its B, although it feels like it does not fit on me.
Mr. Sato: A few words
Mr. Sato: A perfect mug! Ands it. Answers A. Theres no specific reason why So, I mean, I just kind of know I ate a luxury cake. A had certain separation between sponge cake and cream and Chateraise does not work on that level It was really hard at first but Ill go with my gut and say its A.
Yoshio: A premise
Yoshio: Oh, hard for me. A does not get much expensive? A cream didnt have milky smell, sponge cake soft Bs sponge cake felt a bit dry on another hand B strawberry also felt strong A is more delicious but I opted for A, which I still like.
And with that, our writers stayed smooth, four choosing Cake A, four siding with Cake B as classier of the two But who was correct?
Mr. Satos sweet tooth legends, should not be ignored On the other hand, Mr. Satos’ shortness to pick the right item in past Gourmet Writers Rating Checks is also legendary and he stands among the lowest ranked of all our staff with a sub-50-percent correct rate. A pickers have good overall record record in fact
And so, a Super Amaou Shortcake for almost as much price as a Nintendo Switch?
That shouldn’t be a surprise as a lot of thought was left to everyone who chose A Chateraise Special Strawberry Short drew a good challenge while offering flavor enough to lure less experienced cake eaters
Heres a rundown of actual rankings based on todays performance from first to last place, and some final thoughts from each writer.
